“It's never too late to change your life for the better. You don't have to take huge steps to change your life. Making even the smallest changes to your daily routine can make a big difference to your life.” -Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
I love quotes. I collect them like people collect mementos from their travels. Roy T. Bennett's quote nails what I've been feeling lately; how it's not too late to make the necessary changes to align with my ikigai.
Once critical change that I've made that is yielding huge benefits include waking at 5am. This gives me time to pray, meditate, exercise, drink a hot tea or smoothie, journal, write, work on my business, perform some homecaring and now I even start dinner.
I have tweaked my morning routine so much that I can easily make adjustments. Tweaking habits is a necessary part of the discovery process. For example, I used to read in the mornings then I switched to reading at night. I quickly learned, that reading at night puts me to sleep faster than Night Quil.
Therefore, I tweaked my routine to read during the day because I reserve my mornings for results based activities. Another tweak that I made since starting is moving my cell phone from next to my bed, to the bathroom. That way when the alarm goes off in the morning, I have to get up and go to the bathroom to turn it off which forces me out of the bed.
I'm arranging my environment to support my goals.
As I tweak my routine, I'm repeating it until further tweaks are needed. The key is to pay attention to what is not working so you can change it. Each of us has to experiment to find what works for us.
That's the joy of this journey, it's uniquely tailored just for us. According to Jory Mackay, a writer and content strategist, there are a few areas of our lives that we could benefit from building solid habits to develop productive daily routines. Here are a few:
Our morning routine
Work Habits to help us stay focused
Disconnecting from work
Optimizing for energy and health
Also as Roy T. Bennett said...
"Making even the smallest changes to your daily routine can make a big difference to your life.”
